Nathalie Phan, Founder & Owner of SoundSync Music

Named one of the Austin Chronicle's “20 of 2020,” SoundSync Music owner Nathalie Phan (see also: dog mom, bad tennis player) sees entrepreneurship as a responsibility as much as it is a privilege. As a values-oriented leader born and raised in Houston, she has made it her life's mission to put Texas musicians on the map. In 2015, while still a Digital Media Management student at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas, she founded On Vinyl Media as an umbrella organization for her many creative ideas on building and sustaining a local music ecosystem and local music industry infrastructure. One of the businesses under this umbrella is SoundSync Music, a boutique sound design agency which licenses local music to both indie filmmakers and large production houses alike. In her official capacity, she has led and participated in workshops, panels, and university guest lectures on entrepreneurship and music licensing.

Nathalie is the Asian-American and 1st generation daughter of Vietnamese refugees. She has been on the boards of multiple equity-related music non-profits such as EQ Austin, Kids in a New Groove, and Girls Rock Austin and is known to advocate locally for musicians’ rights, specifically on equity-related topics.

Her greatest weakness is that she is a Houston Astros fan.

Zulia Barrios, Artist Management, Tribe Mafia

I'm a North Texas bachelor and a proud alumnus in the field of criminal justice. Currently, my focus is on managing the hip-hop duo Tribe Mafia. Over the years, my work with them has led to significant achievements, including organizing successful tours across the United States and internationally, notably with Akon in São Paulo, Brazil.

I've also played a pivotal role in securing valuable sponsorships for Tribe Mafia, partnering with renowned brands such as Sennheiser, TEAC Vinyl Player, Ford, and iHeartRadio.

When the pandemic struck, I had just graduated from college, balancing part-time artist management with full-time studies. As the pandemic unfolded, I dedicated myself to finding new revenue streams for my artists, one of which involved exploring sync placements.

My journey led me to immerse myself in extensive research, from scanning IMDb to dissecting TV show credits. In recent times, I've actively participated in panels like this one, which I've found to be the most effective way to connect with music supervisors, far surpassing the efficacy of cold emails.

Post-pandemic, I've cultivated valuable relationships with multiple music libraries, sync agents, and supervisors. This networking has translated into noteworthy achievements, with my artists securing placements in notable shows like CW's "All American," CBS's "Bob Hearts Abishola," KSG Hawaii's "My Partner,” “HeartBreak Falls," and most recently, Michael Keaton's latest neo-noir film, "Knox Goes Away."
