MMF Connect: North America

MMF Connect: North America
AI Discussion Panel and Virtual Networking

Catch up with your colleagues, and make new connections from across North America at this virtual networking event, hosted by MMF Canada, MMF-US, and MMF Mexico.

Kicking off the session, we will have a dynamic online discussion about AI with the Water & Music team, as they share their findings and ideas about what is coming next for the music industry ecosystem.

Water & Music writes: "Creative AI may be the most disruptive technology for the music business since the Napster era of piracy, forcing us to rethink traditional industry notions of creativity, ownership, attribution, and skill development in real time.

We are studying how creative AI impacts every step of the industry life cycle — from the initial steps of creation and ideation, to marketing, communication, distribution, and monetization."

This event is free to attend. MMF Canada, MMF-US and MMF Mexico welcome and encourage the attendance of non-members who would like to learn more about these organizations.

This event will take place on a virtual conference platform called Remo. You will find instructions for how to access the event in the Online Event Page, and you will also  receive pre-event email reminders with access instructions.

MMF-US Presents: Sync Summit - A Masterclass on the Importance of Metadata for Sync

MMF-US Presents: Sync Summit - A Masterclass on the Importance of Metadata for Sync

Good metadata in your MP3s is more important than ever to ensure your music connects with the widest audience possible, that you get paid, that your music is used for sync licensing and that your music shows up correctly in search results and is properly categorized and output by AI.

The fact is, without good AI, it’s hard for anyone to find and pay for your music, and increasingly in sync, music supervisors will not even consider using your music if your metadata is not correct and professionally entered and updated. This is why knowing the right way to enter metadata and update it is so essential to the success of your artists and their music.

The question is, how do you enter your metadata correctly, efficiently, and professionally? We’re here to help.

On October 5th at 4pm EDT/1pm PDT MMF-US's partner Sync Summit, authors of the Metadata Style Guide will present exclusively to the MMF-US community a free one hour online seminar on best practices in how to enter your metadata into your MP3s simply, efficiently and correctly that will ensure your metadata gets your music found and paid for by fans and companies looking to license your music.

Sync Summit founder and metadata expert Mark Frieser will take you step by step through all the vital points of metadata entry, recommended software, descriptive tagging and leave you with a copy of our free Metadata Style Guide as well as list of resources you can use to create descriptive tags for your music.

We hope that you’ll join us for this vital session.

MMF-US Webinar: DistroDirect - How to create an artist incubator and unlock more revenue opportunities

When your inbox is overflowing with great demos and artists but it's impossible to manage them all, where do you send them to release? What if you could capture, monetize, and assist those early-stage artists release their music with minimal effort, under your own brand, and access their data and analytics for potential upstreaming opportunities in the future?

Join DistroDirect CEO Andy Irvine and US Business Development & Partnerships Manager Ben Frigeri as they explain why premium white-label micro-distribution is creating additional revenue sources and opportunities for companies, and allowing music businesses globally to add scale with minimal resources. With any music-aligned business now able to set up a branded distribution portal and set their own pricing and royalty rates, a host of new opportunities are being created to grow revenue and retain customers. With DistroDirect white-label distribution, managers now have the power to create their own custom 'A&R incubators', leveraging their brand equity to capture, amplify and scale their artist network like never before.

Andy Irvine is a digital music distribution specialist, GYROstream and DistroDirect co-founder and CEO. With a 20 year career in the music industry in supply chain and operations at both major and independent labels, Andy has been involved in all aspects of the release cycle for thousands of major international and domestic music releases. Andy launched GYROstream in 2018 to provide more opportunities to independent Australian/NZ musicians, with the company later launching their White Label distribution model DistroDirect internationally in 2021.

Ben Frigeri is a business development expert with a passion for leveraging forward-thinking technology to help artists, and the people behind them, scale. With years of experience as an A&R and running early-stage startups, Ben has an acute understanding of the need for tools that place agency back in artist’s hands and provide new revenue streams as they grow their audience-base.

MMF-US Webinar: Iceland - Creative Hub and Destination featuring Record In Iceland & Iceland Airwaves

With programs such as Record in Iceland and festivals like Iceland Airwaves it's easy to be convinced that Iceland is more than just a paradise for tourists but also musicians.

Record in Iceland is a promotional effort run by Iceland Music, a public export office for Icelandic music, in collaboration with Business Iceland, Iceland’s foreign service and Reykjavik Music City. The project is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Business Affairs. Which means that with this program 25% of music production costs incurred in Iceland are refundable. That includes Flights, Accommodation and all studio costs.

Iceland Airwaves is an immersive, multi-genre music festival held across a multitude of venues in the country’s capital, Reykjavík. This festival showcases acts ranging from unheard-of up-and-comers to headline status artists, ranging from established international talent to the country’s rich melting pot of domestic rising stars.

Please join these speakers:

Leifur Bjornsson (Iceland Music Export): is responsible for the Record in Iceland refund project, funded by the government of Iceland. Leifur has vast experience as an experimental electronic music producer, composer and songwriter. He has taken part in various acts including Klemens Hannigan, Low Roar and Cheek Mountain Thief in the past. Leifur’s previous musical work has been featured in recent years in various high-profile projects, including computer game Death Stranding, ads for Allstate and TV shows on ABC and MTV, among others.  Leifur has as of late been focusing more on music production and writing, as well as working with Iceland Music Export.

Nick Knowles (KxKn Management): had his first professional experience in and around music working across world-renowned magazine titles which included Q (r.i.p.), MOJO, Kerrang! and Mixmag. During his award winning decade in the media, Nick first visited Iceland in 2004 for the inaugural Iceland Airwaves Kerrang! Night. Having had a long fascination with Iceland and a certain female singer since her debut release in the mid-90s, Nick was immediately smitten.

A year living and working in Iceland in 2010 saw Nick transition from media marketing into management and on his return to the UK to co-manage a roster of artists with fellow Iceland aficionado Chris Morrison, known for Blur & Gorillaz (amongst others).

As manager Nick helps steer the ship for the multi-award nominated, multi-disciplinary chamber-doom icon sóley as well Sony-signed pianist and composer Eydís Evensen, the latter with whom he's worked with since her very first show (at Iceland Airwaves in 2018) and subsequent career launch in 2021. Additionally Nick consults on and for the media. He can also occasionally be found in Kaffibarinn embarrassing himself with his terrible Icelandic.

Sindri Ástmarsson (Iceland Airwaves): with a background in management, radio and as a DJ, Sindri has been a part of the Icelandic music industry since he was 14 years old. In 2012 Sindri turned to management and until 2018 he ran Mid Atlantic Management. His first management gig was managing Icelandic rock stars KALEO until they moved to the USA after signing their first major deal. Sindri has since been involved with a number of major label deals and worked with some of Iceland’s biggest names in music. In 2018 Sindri turned away from management after taking a job at Iceland Airwaves and its parent company, SENA (Iceland’s biggest concert promoter). At Iceland Airwaves Sindri works as head of booking and programming. His other work for Sena includes being the head of their Corporate events team and has led the work of moving into Esports.

Charta Webinar

REGISTER HERE:

https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_Z0uvQ2DDT3-JebTJB0q6IQ

Description:

The process of clearing music is one of the most painful, time-consuming, and necessary tasks for a manager. Whether the manager is handling the side artist, producer, or other deals themselves or waiting on a backlogged lawyer to get everything done, it can take months before all the contracts are in place and a label is willing to schedule the release.

Charta was created by a former top entertainment lawyer to streamline this process by creating a plain English platform that lets you create offers and negotiate terms. Once you've locked in your final terms, Charta will automatically generate a custom, law-firm quality contract for both parties to sign directly on the platform. The whole process can take as little as 10 minutes your first time using Charta, and we offer the following agreements:

  • Featured artist agreement

  • Producer agreement

  • Mixer agreement

  • Mastering agreement

  • Work-for-hire agreement

  • Pub split agreement

Join our founder, Zach Bohlender, to discuss the following:

  • The importance of clearance agreements

  • How Charta streamlines the process and saves you time and money

  • Your questions and feedback on Charta

Check out Charta today!

About Zach Bohlender, Charta Founder:

Zach Bohlender is an experienced lawyer with deep expertise in both corporate and entertainment law with an extensive music industry network. His passion for helping artists on the legal front translated into the creation of Charta -- the first legal platform for managers and artists alike to create, negotiate, sign and store clearance agreements all in one place, all in plain English. Prior to co-founding Charta in 2022, Zach was working with artists such as Metallica, Tyler, the Creator, and Steve Aoki.

About Tate Tucker:

Tate Tucker got his start in the music industry when his freestyle for Lupe Fiasco in a Georgetown University classroom went viral in 2010. Since then, he's charted a path from being an independent artist, to signing with Harvest Records, an imprint under Capitol Music Group, back to being an independent artist.

Tate has seen the industry from multiple angles as a primary artist, featured artist, songwriter, and touring musician. Tate is intimately familiar with the pain points associated with getting simple agreements done in order to effectively monetize his extensive talents.

About Dave Cool | CRO, Bandzoogle

Dave Cool (yes, that’s his real name) is the Chief Relationship Officer at Bandzoogle. Made for musicians by musicians, Bandzoogle is used by over 60,000 artists to power their websites and manage direct-to-fan marketing and sales.

Dave has spoken at dozens of music conferences including SXSW, Canadian Music Week, Folk Alliance, and the ASCAP EXPO. He has also been interviewed by The Economist, Newsweek International, CNN.com, and the Financial Post for his insights on the music industry. He’s also a recovering punk rock drummer, comedy nerd, and wine snob.

About Adam Ezra

Working outside the confines of the traditional music industry, Adam Ezra and his bandmates – Corinna Smith (fiddle), Alex Martin (drums), Poche Ponce (bass) - have built an inspired community of fans, regularly performing hundreds of shows a year for the past two decades without any major label or mainstream radio support.

After their tour was cancelled at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ezra brought the show online, creating The Gathering Series. Through his own experience with COVID, a move across the country, and even his wedding day, Ezra broadcasted without fail from wherever he found himself each night at 7pm for 500 nights in a row reaching a cumulative audience of over 15 million viewers.

As the world has opened up again, Adam has galvanized his community, not only packing clubs and theaters, but also continuing his unorthodox approach to touring, often bringing his Gathering Series live to the backyards of fans around the country, creating 3 day musical getaways for his followers, and hosting a festival through his non-profit organization, RallySound, that raised $100k for homeless veterans in the Northeast in 2022.
