Shira Gans, Senior Executive Director of Policy + Programs at the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media & Entertainment
Shira is Senior Executive Director of Policy + Programs at the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media & Entertainment. She is the architect of NYC’s inaugural social impact strategy for the music industry pioneering the annual NY Music Month, a $9M fund for female-led creative projects, music career education for high school students, and establishing the first Mayor’s Office of Nightlife. Shira also directs NYC Film Green where she creates resources to help film/TV productions decarbonize and reduce waste.
Shira has spent her career working to address inequality through positions at the NYC Department of Consumer Affairs, Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Office of Manhattan Borough President, NYC Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Shira was named a 40 Under 40 Rising Star by City & State, a Climate Leader by Forbes, and her work has been featured in The New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Variety, Billboard, Elle, and more. She holds a Master of Public Policy from the Goldman School of Public Policy, University of California, Berkeley and a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University.
