Join us for this discussion with sync music executives on the current condition of the film, tv, advertising, and game sync markets. COVID-19 shifted production schedules, causing many music supervisors to shift their music searches, resulting in music publishers, labels, and sync companies to shift the music they pitched. This panel will discuss the current needs of the sync market, production cycles, potential trends, the music pitch process, licensing rights and terms you need to know, and most importantly how to make money.

Mark Frieser, CEO and Founder of Sync Summit

Mark Frieser is the Founder and CEO of the music licensing educational and events platform Sync Summit and the music licensing agency, Disconic. Mark’s work in technology, music and entertainment began in high school as a journalist for the long-island based music magazine Good Times in 1983. Since then, Mark’s worked as a technologist and executive at companies that include About.com, Nielsen, Jupiter Communications, News Corporation, iVillage, IDT, Jerusalem Venture Partners, Women Japan, Hachette and Llagardere and founded the mobile music consultancy Consect. Mark was educated at Queens College and the Sorbonne and continues to be obsessed with discovering and sharing the next big thing in tech and music.

Jennifer Smith is the founder of the LA based Music Supervision company “Rat Dance Party” and has worked in the music and media industry for over a decade. She started her career as part of the music teams for Dancing With The Stars (ABC), The Ellen Show (WB), and America’s Best Dance Crew (MTV). Her love of music and the exploding media landscape guided her to join the Kobalt Music synchronization team. Her time at Kobalt gave her extensive and broad experience in the synchronization world, dealing with all stakeholders in the creative and business process including record labels, songwriters, producers, musicians, managers, and marketing teams. After seven years at Kobalt, Jennifer went back to her first love of content and storytelling and joined the music team on ABC’s reboot of American Idol. After season 1, Rat Dance Party was born. Jennifer has worked on projects produced by Showtime, Netflix, Viacom, Shorts TV, Amazon, Pluto TV, NBC, Voltage Pictures, and many more. Currently she is the music supervisor on Marc Cherry’s hit show on CBS “Why Women Kill”, the iconic music-docuseries “Behind The Music” on Paramount+, and various other films.
